Hoole and Newton - Residence Voice

Hello,

On Monday PC Morgan-Griffiths attended St.Werburghs primary school in Hoole to give a talk on safety, community responsibility and the important role law enforcement plays in our community. The students were also trilled to get an up close look at a real police car.

The newly formed Newton Community Speed Watch had its first patrol this week. Joined by PCSO Jayne Lockwood to complete their induction, the team worked for an hour on two local roads which have a 20mph limit. Almost 100 vehicles were checked and around half were exceeding the speed limit. Several were at speeds well above 30mph. Follow up action will happen in the coming days.

One volunteer spoke about their motivation to be involved, ‘When I was 8 years old, my Dad was knocked off his motorbike due to a speeding motorist. This happened close to where we lived so we ran down the road to a horrible scene that I’ll never forget. This whole event and its consequences had a huge, and sadly negative impact on the life of my dad and my family. If, being involved in a speed watch programme can help to make roads safer, it makes it very worthwhile.’ If anyone is interested in setting up a Community Speed Watch they can email PCSO Lockwood on Jayne.lockwood@cheshire.police.uk

As part of “you said, we did” in both Newton and Hoole PCSO Lockwood has done parking patrols that were reported on Residents voice. In Hoole this was Shavington Avenue and in Newton this was Well Lane during school pick up and drop off hours.

Please do continue use our residents voice survey Resident's voice | Cheshire Constabulary

Have a lovely weekend.

Will and Jayne
